My Favorite Topwater Bait: The Lucky Craft Snap Kick

Getting that explosive topwater bite can be a challenge at high pressured public ponds. You and I both know that topwater bites tend to be easier at secluded backwater spots in rural areas where aggressive bass are drawn to just about any commotion on the surface. Most bass in the areas that I and you probably fish are so easily spooked and wary that they tend to swim away at the sound of a lure hitting the water on a cast. However, it's not impossible to get some topwater action at local ponds. And, when I do get a bass to fully commit and bust the surface and hit my lure, it is a rare treat that puts a smile on my face that lasts a week. While the devil's horse/double-swisher type propbaits used to be my go-to topwater pond bait, for the past couple of years I have had the most confidence in the Lucky Craft Snap Kick.

I know what your thinking..."Wait, isn't the LC Snap Kick more of a glide bait?" Yeah, it is, but when fished on top, it draws in the big bass in the pond like no other. Here are some tips that will help you get that exciting topwater strike!

Three Reasons Why the LC SNAP KICK is So Effective When Fished on Top:

  1. The wake is smooth and the ripples seem to fold over its self like a rope being braided. This unique wake gets the attention of big fish.

  2. When fished on top, your line doesn't create "mini-splashes" like it does when you walk a pencil bait or twitching a popper or a prop bait. I'm convinced that bigger, smarter bass get turned off and swim away when they notice the action of the line in front of your bait. It's best to keep your line off the water as much as possible.

  3. The combination of the cadence of the jointed tail and the gliding side-to-side action looks so natural and convincing that it even fools the big bass to strike.

The best part of using the LC Snap Kick is that it's very easy to use. Unlike other topwater baits where a good amount of skill and technique are required to fish the lures effectively, mastering the LC Snap Kick is as simple as finding the right retrieval speed. Once you get that down, get ready for that Oh $H!7 strike that will get your heart thumping!
